In April 2014, the Tsao Foundation in Singapore was the first organisation in Asia to host Jane Verity running the 3-day Spark of Life Certified Practitioner Course. Forty team members from all areas of the organisation attended, including their three Medical Practitioners.
Dr. Ng Wai Chong, Medical Director from the Hua Mei Centre for Successful Ageing provided feedback that while they have previously given their team Person Centred Education, this was the first time he and his colleagues have learned the skills of how to implement the essence of Person Centred Care. The program has made an immediate impact on the way their staff connect with clients and they already are able to unlock dormant abilities and assist their clients to remember daily activities and bring a spark back into their lives.
The Tsao Foundation also hosted a public forum where Mrs Theresa Lee, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, Singapore and Dr Donald Yeo, Members of the Person Centred Care Steering Committee, Alzheimer’s Disease Association, Singapore gave a heart-warming introduction on the programs they run as a practical expression of Person Centered Care. Jane followed with a presentation on the Essence of Person Centred Care. She shared how Spark of Life offers a valuable key to take its implementation to a new level where the focus is not only on the quality of interaction to retain personhood but how it also focuses on rehabilitation and unlocking dormant abilities.
