Ingredients:
- 11/3 litres of prune juice
- 720 grams pureed apples
- 525 grams All Bran
Method:
Add hot prune juice to other ingredients and mix well. Allow to cool and store in screw top container.
Commercially available prune juice may be used or fresh prune juice can be made as follows:
- 1 kilogram pitted prunes
- 11/4 litres of water
Cook pitted prunes in water until soft. Puree prunes. Sift through strainer.
To use:
Commence with 1 tablespoon daily and increase or decrease as required to prevent constipation. Ensure resident drinks optimal fluids – 11/2 litres. (Coffee is not included in this as coffee acts as a diuretic, depleting fluids.)
Suitable for diabetics:
Ingredients:
- 3 cups unsweetened apple sauce
- 2 cups bran
- 11/2 cups unsweetened prune juice
Method:
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and store in a sterile screw top container.
