Here is a great tip from a facility in NSW
We have a gentleman in the third stage of dementia who has lost the ability to recognise a knife and fork, making eating a problem. Through observation, I realised he was happy eating his desserts from a bowl using a spoon, so we have since been cutting up all his food and putting it in a bowl and giving him a spoon to eat with. He is now eating more than he was before. I even cut up sandwiches and put them into a bowl, which works very well and helps him eat independently for longer.
